Sometimes distraction is not caused by the actual distractions around yourself but by problems with regulating your emotions - you may not want to do the thing you want to focus on, it may be too challenging or it may make you anxious.

One approach to overcome this is to try and partition the task into very small portions that you can do - that way you can make progress without being overwhelmed by the task.
