Last year I was inspired by this Graeber article to write this: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/campus/want-be-better-t... Absolutely nobody has fun in higher education now. Never! I used to
set up codebreaking escape-room style puzzles. We went on field
trips. We cracked the WEP wifi. We played with drones and robots. We'd
get in crazy. leftfield guest lecturers. Today, a suffocating,
disabling, illiberal safety and surveillance culture puts a stop to
anything that even resembles "fun". But "fun" (memorable experiences) is what creates memory engrams, so a
culture of misery is particularly damaging to teaching ad learning. |
