He suggested installing plan9port[1], which "just" ports some user land libraries and applications to different Unices, including OS X. So we're talking about native OS X executables here. There's also the "Acme Stand Alone Complex"[2], which - if I remember correctly - is a "virtual" Inferno OS applet which includes the Acme application.
