As a kid, I lived in a part of the world where we did not buy potatoes in the supermarket. We harvested them in autumn and stored until next summer, storage was a basement (cool, dry, dark place). By the spring it inevitably sprouted, we had to remove sprouts and sort out rotten ones (usually done only once). No one ever got sick from sprouted potatoes, that is the most ridiculous thing that I heard. Green potatoes are those that were exposed to light, people said it's not good to eat, but I guess you would have to eat a lot of them to see the effect. |
