Isolation, better observation of the heavens, doubles as a rookery for sending and receiving grim tidings, proximity to the dungeons and/or tower prisoners in case you need a research spec-*ahem* volunteer. And if you blow the place up running arcane experiments or attempting congress with demons, hopefully the damage is contained. |
