Just to play devil's advocate, the other candidate may have given the company a deadline, and so the company may have needed to pass on the other candidate in order to accommodate your timeline. Not saying this is what happened here, but there are reasons why an outcome that appears cold can, upon digging, result from everyone ultimately acting in good faith. |
