I think "I am not
your
lawyer" was more a flex of credentials, to give their argument more weight.

Well, one would be true and the other false. As a general rule lawyers get in more trouble for the latter.

which is funny because its explicit meaning is to
remove
weight from the argument, by telling the reader not to trust it.
