I don't know if it's nostalgia, but I don't recall having performance issues. The graphics were definitely pushing the console to its limits, and I can easily see it dropping frames.

The frame rate was poor already but it dropped deeply during some of the battle scenes. It's still my favorite PlayStation 2 game.
