I don't understand why they kept the name.

Reiser4/5 are interesting in concept and I've been running a few boxes on Reiser4 some time ago, but with the name attached, I don't think anyone will be touching it for foreseeable future.

Same, I used Reiser 3 heavily in my days as a Gentoo Linux user, I followed the features planned for Reiser 4 and then 5 with the hope that a name change and some renewed open source contributions from people more equipped to participate than myself would one day get it over the line… but no name change and continued glacial progress has I fear all but doomed the entire file system family. Being too closely associated with a murderer can do that.
It's always possible to fork it, rename it, and resubmit it for inclusion in the kernel tree. Would it still be relevant though?
