I've heard lots of NFTs are just links to links that starts with "
https://s3.us-east-1
". It makes some sense to make it any ways but not like that.

nah, nowadays they use IPFS

IPFS itself is often just a transient cache of S3 - someone has to host the content somewhere to "pin" it to the IPFS network, that somewhere is often S3.
