In my observation, Data Engineering leadership is the hardest skill to find recently. There is a good amount of entry-mid level individual contributors in the market, but at the Manager+ level the market is insanely competitive .

But there aren’t many open positions compared to software/backend enginering managers, right?
What do you think makes a good DE lead/manager? I figured a decent part of the job is to communicate to clients.
I find that the alphabet soup of technologies they use on the DE/ETL/warehouse side of things is so alien it's like they come from an alternate timeline. That alone narrows the field considerably.
