I found no suitable replacement for demnu/j4-menu on Wayland, so I stick to using Gnome on X. It's that simple.

I don't know much about window servers and have no idea why I should use Wayland instead of X.

I use bemenu (https://github.com/Cloudef/bemenu) as my replacement for dmenu.
