As a traditional cyclist, 4 9s isn’t close to reliable enough to trust. You need a lot of equipment faith when bombing down a mountain road at 30+ mph. Mechanical & hydro brakes tend to fail gracefully… mechanical wires will usually break a couple threads at a time (you feel this when pulling the lever), allowing riders to come to a stop well before total failure (severed cable). Similarly, you can repeatedly “pump” the levers of a leaky hydro brake to increase stopping power. |
