Cognitive load is such a technical term. You don’t want to (and probably cannot) hold 30 different things in your mind at the same time. That’s pretty obvious.

Programmers have such an affinity for technical-sounding terms.

It's a fairly well established term. But then, I'm a developer so maybe it's just in my context/reality.
Pretty sure that’s what I said.
Also, from TFA:

Not to mention the bulk of the article deals with cognitive load, as taken from psychology. Not "programmer" invented at all.
