That is handled by MakeMKV, which the blog posts refers to. https://www.makemkv.com/ "MakeMKV is a format converter, otherwise called "transcoder". It converts the video clips from proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way." |

It says on the about page that makeMKV is open but I couldn't find a link to a source.
