Ask HN: Appeal Facebook's unpublishing my account
3 points by deejes 1616 days ago
Hi everyone, a friend’s ecommerce store has had its facebook page unpublished for violating guidelines against sexual content. They sell furniture though, and those images are being flagged for some reason. They haven’t been able to run ads the last few weeks and there is no way to appeal the decision through the app.

Does anyone have ideas on how one might try to rectify this?

It's been demonstrated many times before that large corporations like FB and Google only respond to media pressure in scenarios like this - even one as ludicrous as auto-accusing furniture pictures as inappropriate sexual content. HN itself can sometimes be enough, if not I would find something more widely consumed and publish there.

It simply takes that much to get a thinking human to look at it... without media pressure you are engaging in a futile battle with dumb ML, automated responses, and maybe scripted humans which are much the same thing.

Yes the system is broken, which is why ideally you shouldn't attach something important like your business to FB.

Thanks for you reply @tomxor :)
You're welcome. For what it's worth, you could try re-posting on HN in a short time.

It can be hit or miss with submissions making it to the front page, it's not necessarily uninteresting, sometimes it's just timing.
