I actually didn't think it was that amazing. Visually stunning, some good scenes, and pretty memorable. But regardless I think it doesn't deserve the insanely high praise it gets. In my opinion..
It is noteworthy in that none of the actors are recognizable from their roles in other films.
My son saw Ex Machina and Ep 7 almost back to back and didn't notice. He was astonished when I pointed it out. "Shouty Guy" and "Emo Guy" were his names for the principal Empire heavies. No one will guess wrong about who is who.
