As the Butthole Surfers teach us: "It's better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't done."[1] Or to put it another way: money comes, money goes - the real opportunity cost here is your time, and the intellectual fire burning obviously burning very deep in you somewhere that propelled you to take the application process as far as you already have. So with that framework in mind - and since already you already have the opportunity lined up - go ahead and get that PhD.
