This really only applies to the scrappy startup phase before finding product-market-fit with a minimal viable product. Once you've hit that write tests.

We could say no here shortly after finding product market fit to make a more featured v1, but I wouldn't want to work at a place where a big part of the job is backfilling missing tests.
