Antivirus or Windows Defender?

Most of the 3rd party antivirus software tend to slow down computer systems. Is windows defender alone enough to keep the windows systems protected or do the antivirus software actually have a bold stand?

The best antivirus is you. I don't use antivirus since 2008. Never had a problem. BUT I don't DL pirated games, I don't open files on my inbox I didn't ask and when chrome say a web site is dangerous I listen.

And there's always https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload if I suspect something fishy.

Well, it's not always pirated games you know. Viruses come along with any software or even other small files.
