How's defunding the police going?

But has anyone actually defunded the police?

I think the main problem is the _unbelievable_ level of incompetence roaming freely within the police force. They never catch the bad guys [1] and the money you give them may be used to buy expensive toys [2].

well yes - didn't they defund in portland, austin, NY and others? I would also include the restorative justice DA's as a form of defunding the prison-industrial-complex.. which have been coming up all over. Isn't one of the effects that more criminals are doing more brazen things knowing that they can get away with more?

I'm not saying it's good or bad. I'm just pointing out that the sentiment of defunding police has certainly happened in many places in the US from what I've seen in the news.

I myself don't think the main problem is the police, the main problem is 'the rent is too damn high' - and I mean the sentiment, it's not just the rent - average (non-college-degree) wages do not provide a basic self sufficient lifestyle in most places in the US - so crime is up. imho.
