It follows the new trend of making the top row of keys multimedia keys, but they're F1-F12 if you hold down the Fn key. On this laptop I can't even see the F1-F12 label near those keys (from the video, also from The Verge writer[1]), so, what's next, will they have their own version of "How to use Excel" that says "If you want to edit a cell's contents, press Fn-Mute"? Hooray for the stupidification of the computer. Oh, I spoke to soon, at 1:56 [2] the backlight does change from backlighting the icons to backlighting Fx "keys" in between them. But my complaint remains, now a user and tech support has another hurdle of "I don't see the F2 key" because they both don't realise they have to press the Fn key...
