This is something that I observe most on my American friends. For some reason American workers have the smallest amount of vacations in the developed world, and the Calvinist ethos is so ingrained in society that sometimes people can’t see themselves doing nothing or just having a good time without trying to achieve an useful goal.

I’m American and have a blast on vacations, because I plan fun things to do. This person is talking about taking a vacation to sit around their house, that sounds pretty lame.
