It needs the year to be legally valid. But removing it altogether is perfectly reasonable. Creative works are copyrighted by default, no notice necessary.
If the year is nonsense, it won’t be legally valid. A statement identifying the copyright holder should surely carry just as much weight legally, and is certainly more useful. Certainly removing it outright is the sensible thing in most places, I was just suggesting a better middle ground for those that want to have something there.
