This isn't new. I first learned about Sierpinski triangles with this algortihm in the early 90s. Later, I learned how it can be generalised to IFS and opened my eyes to much more interesting examples. I think there's even an entire chapter on this specific algorithm in Barnsley's Fractals Everywhere book.
