Your estimates should be way higher with the legacy codebase. Science says 1.7x what you first expect. I'd pad that to 2.5x if not higher. If you can do it in 1 day, estimate 3 days for it. If you have 1 day to do it, get it done in 2 hours. There's a lot of literature around estimates and most of them encourage data. Which is a poor approach for this case because of your points 1 and 3. It's helpful to compute, but take into account that the data is off by a lot. |
