Part of the support YC companies get is the ability to periodically post ads on the HN front page. Part of the point of this forum is to promote YC companies and encourage people to apply for YC. The post would have been deliberately put there by the moderators.

From the FAQ under Can I post a job ad:

  Another kind of job ad is reserved for YC-funded startups. These appear on the front page, but are not stories: they have no vote arrows, points, or comments. They begin part-way down and fall steadily. Only one is on the front page at a time. The rest are listed at jobs.

I am just saying the job posts are supposed to be for job posts and not proxies for the service they provide.

Given that YC companies have only a limited access to “Launch HN:” posts, it looks like job posting is their only guaranteed recurring exposure to the front page.
