The Second Demographic Transition theory holds that low fertility rates are a feature of developed economies, just as high fertility rates are a feature of agrarian economies. I don’t see how any government can do anything to halt this. It will be interesting anyway to see what the Chinese government resorts to once these relatively mild policies fail to halt the decline in fertility rates. |
