I have an Ergodox-EZ. I originally ordered it with loud clicky key switches but have converted to a much quieter switch with a weaker spring. I chose that model because of the columnar layout. I really only use about 48 keys on it due to the layers that firmware gives you. I have a full size number pad on the right if I hold down the “a” key, and the home row on the right switches to arrow keys if I hold down “f”. I’ve got another layer for working on MacOS so I don’t have to have funky layouts to make it work between Apple, Windows, and Linux.

The model I have is also tented and that’s where there’s a huge gain for me. The fact that I can position the two halves of my keyboard anywhere and that they’re tented relives a lot of stress in my wrists and elbow. I might not still be a developer without this tool. Whenever I travel with just a laptop I bring a Keyboardio Atreus. It’s not tented but it’s enough to help me get through short trips.
