Fundamentally I agree that it's not one argument causing the fracture, it's a cumulative process that exposes underlying incompatible beliefs. I think this article is getting at the speed with which people seem to adopt to their new viewpoints. There also seems to be a the lack of civility, and incoherent dismissal of reality seem to be new. The best model I've seen is people are being radicalized with nonsensical viewpoints. With the new belief system comes toxic aggressive self assurance that dismisses others. Ultimately I fear we're too far gone and the generations who survive this will have to pick up the pieces. |

I agree, although I hope people start finding middle ground, in general.
