Isn't the entire point of an NFT the fact that two users can't simultaneously possess it? I don't know if NFTs are the ideal approach but that seems like the one critique that doesn't apply.

For the NFT itself? yes. For the thing the NFT claims? no; that is up to some authority to decide whether to honor it.

e.g., 2 users have NFT which claims "I own the Mona Lisa". Who is right?
