Do you think there's room for a new photo based social media?

With instagram moving away from being a photo sharing app and more towards video it seems like there should be room for a new player in the space. but at the same time platforms that were supposed to be instagram alternatives like vero and EyeEn aren't exactly growing.

When Facebook came along, people would have said no: MySpace and Flickr already exist.

Same with Instagram, VSCO, Imgur, etc.

So my answer is yes, there is room for one. It's just impossible to know how to get people to use it until it happens.

The 2007-2015 time period was brutal for photo-based sites. I lost a good chunk of change running one. Pinterest, Instagram, and Snapchat were the survivors, I know that many didn't. Somehow Flickr lumbered through.

In that time frame it seemed to me that video was producing a lot more value per unit of resources used than photos were. Those expiring photos are a big plus because you don't have to pay to store them.

I don't know where things are going today, but personally I've been burned.

Perhaps such a service could succeed but for me trust is gone. There is simply too much evidence of sociopathy among the leaders of such services; Zuckerberg has fouled the nest. Human beings need one another personally, but I don't belive that friendships can successfully be mediated by Facebook, nor any similar site.
