If it were a large enterprise who's idea of innovation is to do whatever Facebook does, then yeah, you can't change their processes and will have to jump through the hoops to get the job. It's also a hint of how work at that corporation will be later on.

Otoh, at a start-up, I surely would expect people working there being able to think for themselves and given that they like your code, a leetcode interview does indeed seem absurd.
