When my father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer his sister, my aunt who is also a Dev, explained the situation to her team and took some time off here and there to help out. Even if theres nothing your coworkers can do they will be more than understanding, they wont get ticked off if you're late with something. You might notice theres a good chance some of them will pick up the slack and never ever mention it. We're all human and we all have a natural tendency to try and help those that we are surrounded by.

If you take anything away from this is don't keep it to yourself, that never works.
