Call me cynical but to me the optics here is that they acquired Meta under the 'cover' of philanthropy (it' a free tool so do they even have any revenue) but seem to have only been interested in the brand, which they then took away for commercial use and just closed down the company. On the other hand, their Wikipedia page states that they have 350 employees, which is quite a large number, so they were probably (hopefully?) also interested in acquiring the pool of engineers and data scientists. Either way, that does not look very philanthropic... |
