I learned, of course, that purchase price is just the cost of entry. Also, unless you have experience with rebuilding airplanes, you should probably avoid the one selling for the lowest price.

Come to think of it, the Lycoming engine in that 172G could be thought of as the analog of that wood stove: simple, dirty, built to last. They don't make those like they used to, either.
