I spent the last decade working for semi’s (Intel, Arm, NVIDIA) (all opinions here my own) on IoT and Edge Computing ecosystem.

My take away is that the concept of a “Digital Twin” has evolved. In the IoT space, a digital twin tends to be a representative of the state of some real world object or asset. With Amazon device shadows for example, we are talking about a relatively simple list of stored values. Is the light on or off? Etc.

The Metaverse is an extension of digital twin. It is being driven by advances in processing power at the edge. If it’s affordable to put a gigantic processing power into a factory, why not simulate the entire factory?

Metaverse is that: an advanced digital twin.

Finally, a lot of people want to hate on crypto. But crypto for me is essential for Metaverse. Having an economy built into the advanced digital twin is very, very powerful because now everything is an MMORPG game.

With money baked in, you can assign value to data, resources, sensors, processing power, storage and overlay a marketplace on top of the scenario.

Anyways - people should begin to take the role of crypto seriously. This is a real thing and it will happen.
