Living in Japan for more than 5 years I've never felt anxious about being surrounded by people not like me. Maybe because I come from a country where all kinds of people live. My idea of my tribe is quite broad.. I don't think it's hard set thing. It depends on one's own view of humanity. I've certainly made some old ladies anxious with my presence at the start of COVID however. Lack of language skills, and all the results of that is more a contributor to difficulties of being a minority.
