Isn't torture in a Russian prison a trope? I thought we were all on the assumption that there is widespread torture unless they could prove otherwise.

Russia has signed the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Convention_agai... and also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Convention_for_the_Pr... . So if torture is widespread in Russian jails, this is in violation of at least two international conventions they signed.
I'd assume that about any prison, until proven otherwise, yeah.
