Way back in 2006 Monbiot published a book, Heat: How To Stop The Planet Burning, which set out what would be needed to have a shot at limiting climate change. Insulation retrofits on all buildings, replacing cement with non-emitting alternatives, re-doing the transport system wholesale, etc., etc.: you know, the works, starting today--i.e., 2006. I found it to be an objective look at the scale of the problem at the time. I'll re-read it now in the light of another 15 years' events. He seems much more despairing now. |
