I was on the program committee. We don’t generally discuss these details. I can say that this is emphatically not a statement suggesting that this topic is not important. It is very difficult to put together a one-day, single track conference. Putting together a good program relies on carefully balancing many variables. This year (and previous years I served on that committee) there have been many talks that were rejected but we all said “dang, I wish we had an extra day or an extra track.” We received many, many excellent talks, but the downside of that is that some talks that would be great don’t end up in the final program. This is basically true of any conference.
