That sounds like strapping a jet engine onto a barn. No need to go with NVMe when SATA SSDs are still available and fast enough.

I guess they mean M.2, which makes everything more compact and cableless. It also supports SATA.
Yes, more about form factor than speed but that’s a bonus.
Well the latest compute module does expose its pcie. People have already bolted nvme drives on to it.

It’s not blindly fast (iirc it’s only a single pci lane and to get the full benefit out of m.2 nvme drives you need 4 lanes)

It’s just that the pci lane is used by the USB3 host controller on the RPI4
