I got in to programming because of my other hobbies. I remember playing an NFL game on the Dreamcast. It wouldn't keep statistics from the past years, only the current year. I remember researching and learning about the LAMP stack and made my own statistics tracker for the game.

I've thought about volunteering in my local community with kids who are interested in computers. I think finding out about their other hobbies and finding a way to tie in programming with them would be a great way to get them interested and stay motivated.
