I'm not sure if I'm missing something here or what.

Wouldn't using HTTPS put it on the same port as virtually all web traffic?

Yeah, it's odd. Maybe a really old answer, when that wasn't true yet?
It’s about the Backblaze having your private key, “irregardlessly” of how secured they got yours.
Depends. For all they know, you could be using their software in 1998.
