"Yet you almost never hear the financial experts recommending that you start a business." And... many times when I do hear people recommend "start a business", it's "for the tax write-offs". Or at least that's the one bite-size thing some folks internalize. Have seen friends and neighbors get in to "business" - like various MLMs - and talk about "write offs". Naive at best, and dangerous at worst, I'm not surprised more people aren't specifically pointing out "start a business" to mass audiences - I'm not sure most people can do that responsibly. But most people can enroll in a company 401k and save a bit of money for later. The biggest damage they may do is lock up some money until they're 59. "Start a business" without much thought can lead to a lot more problems for folks. |
