The word is that the railroad embankment acted as a temporary levee and stored a large charge of water up, until it failed. Then this impromptu lake charged right through town. It's usual for that are to flood, this was just a lot more water all at one time than usual. There were pictures of cars filled with gravel; and that rail berm blown completely out, tracks dangling. |
