Yes there is a waste prevention piece, but the key thing on a personal level is preventing the purchase of the new item of clothing for some purpose that you were looking for. The moment the money exchanges hands for the new product, that is additonal commerce which functionally “locks in” the emissions and the associated incentive structure. It’s less about buying used, as it is about reducing the buying of new. |
