It may be easier for an MIT or Stanford graduate to get into the field just through the university's reputation and contacts that they have, but after 2-3 years in the industry, I really think your work will show your credentials better than your alma mater.

As a hiring manager, a top tier school will matter for a long while. It matters not only in salary (20%+) for a top tier school, but also in the opportunities people will trust you with.
What's your reasoning for this? (or are you just saying that that is the way it is, even if it's not proper?)
Sorry I wasn't clear. That's the way it is, and when I was a hiring manager was when the disparity was made clear to me.
