This could backfire actually. Hunting is a fairly regulated activity everywhere else... Do they teach how to navigate the regulatory framework? From the video, it is fairly young children so I assume not. I'm thrilled they are doing it, but so much of responsible hunting and gun ownership seems to be intertwined with navigating the bureaucracy and minutiae around environmental and wildlife preservation regulations that... Well... It leaves me questioning the practicality of just teaching the how without also interacting with the parent to teach the rest of the picture. I question the receptiveness of seeming grade schoolers to "paperwork".

That being said, this is absolutely a worthwhile lesson in self-sufficiency.

Hunting is also quite regulated in Texas, particularly in developed areas.

Even shooting target practice is highly regulated and mainly has to be done either on privately-owned land and/or in facilities that you have to pay to utilize. There's really no way to find a place to legally shoot for free any reasonable drive from Houston.

The regs are typically not enforced against kids. The adults should know better but Rangers let things slide for kids
