is crypto currency gold (asset building) or is it cash (transactional)? some spent $100 on food and some probably didn't know what do to with it and left it alone. if you knew right now that a $1 bill would be effectively worth $100 in 5 years would you use it to buy food? Bitcoin in particular was originally supposed to be a transactional mechanism but along the way it was either too slow or too expensive. Until the price is stable and remains so it will likely remain only something to own and not something to spend.
